What's The Story Behind Your Guitar?

I can’t help wondering where are they now and how music affected their lives.

Hanging on the wall above my desk I have several old photos from the heyday of the Dobro.

This would be during the first Hawaiian craze in the 1930’s.

One photo is from September 17, 1933 at the Clyde Jewett School Of Music

annual picnic. There are about 50 people in the class photo dressed to the nines

and more than half are holding Dobros.

Some of which are extremely collectable today such as the double cyclops!

My favorite photo is also a class photo that was taken in my old stomping

ground Long Beach, CA. Although it’s not dated, judging by the

Model T cars in the background I can guess it

might also be from the 1930’s.

There is a little girl in the photo in in her best Sunday dress complete

With Hawaiian lei holding what appears to be a stunning model 27 Dobro.

I look at that picture often and wonder what affect music had on her life.

Did she continue to play music? What did she like to play the most?

Did she like playing the Dobro? What happened to her guitar?

So what I am getting at is that it is good to take a look at the past

once in a while. Track down some old photos and recordings

and listen close to the stories they tell. You might

find one you like.
