The 300 lb Guitar Case
These days every magazine and news show has something about getting
in shape and working out. They suggest jogging, spinning, using the
contraptions at the gym and a myriad of other things.
Now don’t get me wrong, I am all for this country getting in shape.
Not only will everyone be healthy but we will all have more money in
our pockets because the cost of health care would go way down.
So I have an idea for a simple workout that musicians can do.
It doesn’t cost a thing, there is no travel involved other than going
from one room in your house to another and best of all doesn’t
require any equipment.
Sound good so far?
Ok, here we go.
Step 1: Go into the room where you keep your guitar, Dobro or other
musical instrument.
Step 2: Open the case
Step 3: Tune up and play!
Huh??
How does that get you in shape? Simple!
Use your hands and fingers for something other than pushing buttons
on the TV remote!
These are the 3 most important steps for getting into
musical shape. I know it sounds simple but you would be surprised
how many people get stuck in the 300lb guitar case syndrome.
It’s real easy to let one day not playing turn into two days, three days,
and before you know it, a week and then a month or two have gone by.
It gets easier and easier not to play the guitar until the pain of
opening the case is greater than the pain of not playing music!
Don’t let that happen to you. If it has, follow my step by step process
outlined above and repeat it every day. You’ll be surprised how quickly
that 300lb guitar case goes down to a few ounces.
