Wow! What a find!! I chose "Teach Yourself to Play Dobro" by Joe Stoebenau from a large selection of
teaching manuals offered by a large music website. You might say I chose this book sight unseen and only had the
manual description offered by the site to guide me. Well I am extremely pleased with the results. It is
easy to read, very simplistic to understand and has wonderful photos to guide a new dobro enthusiast to
the intermediate level of play. Being a professional musician with 30 years of experience playing cornet,
guitar, mandolin, and harmonica, I have seen lots of "teach yourself manuals" that have been more
detrimental rather than helpful. Many times the author writes from the perspective that you should
already have an understanding of the music language of slants, slides, licks, pull-offs and hammer-ons. For
a beginner this can be overwhelming. Joe takes the approach that you are just beginning to understand
music and leads you gentley into the world of music comprehension. With a teacher's guide like this who
can't learn to play dobro? Believe me, this is a must for all beginning dobro musicians!!!
