I Lead You By The Nose

How many Dobro players does it take to screw in a light bulb?

At least four and maybe more!

One to actually get the job done and 3 or more to stand around

discussing how Jerry Douglas would do it!

So which one of these people are you?

And who do you think is the better musician?

You bet! The person who simply got the job done instead of

talking about it.

So that’s the key. Show up, open the case, tune up and play!

Of course it helps to have an outline or basic plan of what

you want to accomplish when you get out your ax. This could

be notes from a previous lesson, a solo or song you are learning from

a CD or DVD, or a page or two from an instructional book you are

currently working from and maybe a combination of all of that. I can

suggest one of the best selling book/CD sets on the market for Dobro players:

Teach Yourself To Play Dobro

You can’t go wrong here. I lead you by the nose from the time you open

up the guitar case right into playing your first songs and Dobro licks.

Along the way you will learn some scales, chords and even how to read music!

The next thing to do is follow the general order that the book or DVD

has laid out. This will ensure you don’t miss anything important along

the way. This doesn’t mean you can’t skip around occasionally and see what else

is in there, check it all out but be sure to go back to the lessons in order.

This is especially important when learning to play chords. So many times guitar

instructors teach chords in a very haphazard way and it is difficult for the

student to remember them.  Having taught guitar lessons for many years,

I have developed a “course of action” for learning chords. This simply means

that I start you off on a journey where each chord is either related somehow to

the one previously learned or it builds upon the concept of earlier chords. A great

example of this is my DVD course Barre Chord Secrets Revealed .

Never before has the subject of barre chords been taught like they are here. You

will learn them much faster and have instant recall of them when you follow

the program I have laid out. In addition to the DVD, you will receive the 45 page

Barre Chord Secrets Manual that when used with the DVD delivers a solid 1-2 punch

to your chord studies and overall guitar playing.

So, after you get your guitar out of the case, tune up, have a plan, then play!

Till later,

Don’t play any faster than you can play perfectly!
